If your answer is yes, then it's time to rock your seats. Both featured the starting of girls music group in all-girls school in SoL setting These shows have a similar appeal, in the sense that they are both about a group of girls striving to become something big in a musical setting. I found myself getting sucked into both of these shows because I wanted to see the characters develop their musical prowess from almost nothing, into something amazing, such as what is showcased in full glory in both shows' OP and ED sequences. Both series also have an extensive discography outside the anime, allowing for even greater immersion into their respective universes. Both series are set in an all girls school. The girls all work together to form a band or a group. Pretty much both anime are music related and have plenty of moe to go around. Both These animes are about high school girls having fun with friends and music, though while in K-On! its more about friends being laid back and playing instruments, Love! Live! is about friends who decide to become school idols to attract students to their school so it doesn't get shut down and making friends along the way. Both cute and Moe. Both are longer moe anime than the rest, and feature girls who sing and perform! Also, both have tons of excellent music, in addition to just the opening and ending themes! The characters are very lovable and you will definitely miss them after finishing each! Mio and Umi both have stage fright but Mio get's frightened by everything Both Mio and Umi have more mature singing voices while Yui and Honoka (Main characters) have cuter voices. Something's getting disbanded (School in Love Live and Light Music Club in K-On) Cute girls doing cute things (more obvious in K-On) All girls school. Both series have moe high school characters who want to accomplish something great and have fun while doing so. In K-On!, girls want to form a band and save their club from closing. It's very similar to Love Live! where girls want to save their whole school from closing by forming a Idol group. Both anime have a lot of moe :D and this heartwarming feeling you get while watching both of them. There is also a lot of singing and dancing :). If you liked one of the anime mentioned above, and you were smiling while watching it, I bet you will love the other one :) ✰ same genre anime : music, friendship, slice of life, also comedy ✰ really touching stories ✰ there's something to learn about in this anime Enjoy music, with some funny cute moments? The story takes place on a school which the main characters goal is preventing things to not shut down. In order to do this, they recruit members, practice, and give it all out at the final performance to attract audiences. The difference is that K-On is a band and don't want their club to shut down, while Love Live is Idol singing preventing there school from closing. They both have to do with music (clubs) and the characters are similar. Both are about high school girls starting a music group. In K-On! it's a band and in Love Live! it's an idol group. The characters have similar personalities especially Umi and Mio. ^_^ Both are about a group of school girls forming a music group and both of the series have similar objectives, prior to creating the music group. In K-On, this is to save a band from disbanding, while in Love Live, this is to attract new students in order to stop the school from closing down. Both of the series' setting are about school, the bond between the girls in the group and while having comedy and moe at the same time. Not to forget, K-On and Love Live both have great music and discography, which makes both of the series very memorable. Are you looking for cute and pretty girls on stage? Singing and as well dancing? Or do you love music animes? Might as well try Love Live! School Project. Both strive to aim their own reasoning. They sing their hearts content and some of the main characters have the love for eating. K-On is band and Love Live! School Project is an apparent Idol show. Obviously hehe. In k-on and love live, both have admirable characters with really good friendships with each other. Both animes are about singing and performing. The animes are also cute, making you want to watch more. Both are really good animes if you're looking for a school, music, or slice of life anime. They are both music anime. One is about school idols, and one is about a light music club. Both include cute interactions amongst the characters. Both anime produce pretty catchy and upbeat music. Both of these animes are based around a music school club, they are both comedies (sort of) and include Slice of Life features..also some of the characters are pretty similar Yui is quite similar to Honoka (being an slight airhead). Anyway moving on, both series are pretty close the only main difference is the type of club they are in (K-on is the light music club and Love live is a bit like a idol club.) Both are music comedy anime with much cute characters. They're about school girls who want to be famous singer group. In both there's some drama thread. Anime about cute high school girls making music. They have a similar character cast and plenty of enjoyable slice of life and comedy. Both also have a focus on friendship, and have a 'stronger' second season. Both are telling about music, and the characters have many similar personality. Theme: Music When it comes to competition. I gotta say that K-On! only focuses on in-premise performance whereas Love Live Idol is a group of idols who really needs to compete in order to save their school from shutting down but what makes it similar is that whenever they practice they do boot camps in order to boost up their performance, but sometimes because of negligence they were able to just enjoy themselves by doing non-essential things BUT IN THE END they are able to perform on a top-notch level. Very similar animes, with Love Live being a lot more serious in the achievements and K-On! being much more casual. Both anime feature an all girl music group with great memorable characters, funny moments, and an overall slice of life theme. Pretty much the same. Although the stories are different you have the same idol anime vibe in both animes. Cute characters, drama and amazing songs: you'll get this in these two! If you like idol or moe animes you sure gonna like not only Love Live, but K-On as well It's hard NOT to see similarities between Love Live! and K-ON!. They are both about girls who are dedicated to playing music, and the characters are very similar. I can definitely see Umi as Mio, and Honoka as a mix of Yui and Ritsu. A group of cute girls doing cute things with a music based story, both very relaxing to watch Needless to say, K-On! and Love Love! School Idol Project are music-centric anime. While K-On’s story revolves around four high school girls joining a light music club in order to keep it from disbanding, Love Live! School Idol Project’s story is about the main character, Honoka, and her group of friends creating a school idol group called 'μ's' (muse) in order to attract new students and prevent the school from shutting down. Although the two have a few different plot specifics, they both work to prevent something they love from closing. In addition, the overall theme of friendship and passion and drive are present. With enough hard work and dedication, these anime show that you can achieve anything you put your mind to. Both K-On and Love Live are super cute, muscial Slice of Life's. There is no major drama that the story gets bogged down in, and they just follow the very cute relationships of high school friends. Love Live and K-On are light hearted school anime with musical and comedy elements. Characters also have similar characteristics in both series. They are different though, with Love Live having a stronger story and containing more musical elements and K-On having less of a story and less musical numbers. These two series both feature a group of high school girls who form a music group to prevent their club or school from closing. Both anime are quite lighthearted and have comedy and drama in them. If you enjoy watching slice of life anime or are into music, you might like both shows. Schoolgirl anime, lots of good music, kawaii anime girls, air headed main character. Two very similar music shows. Both K-On! and Love Live! School Idol Project: - Are famous and influent Moe anime. - Have a group of girls trying to grow up with music. - Have characters with similar personalities. - Are relaxing to watch. Strikingly similar, couple of girls want to form an aesthetics club in a school, be it an idol group or a band. However, Love Live! focuses more on the developments and training of each of the girls skills in singing, and in K-On!, the friendships between the girls are more developed and explored compared to Love Live!'s characters. But hey, to each his own. :) report Recommended by NucleaRaven Both involve slice of life, comedy, music and moe girls. While Love Live has more characters singing and dancing scenes,K-on is more descriptive and has more comedy moments. If you want to look for better and more descriptive Highschool life story, give K-on a try :3 K-On! & Love Live! School Idol Project: Both are music anime with a slice of life of cute high school girls, and both are relaxing. A bunch of cute high school girls, set on fire by an charismatic airhead, provides a endearing, comedic and a funny time. If you like watching chastingshows (e.g. BGT) you will really enjoy watching these characters and the development of their relationships. I would recommend it to anyone who just wants to have some a fun time and some heartwarming moments along the way. And K-On! hits the same tone. A fluffy cotton candy, with good music and an cast that is really the driving force. That is what both anime have in common, in addition to some other similarities. Both of these anime shows have cute girls performing and creating unique and amazing music!! Did you like K-On? Nice! Do you need to feel what you liked about K-on? Nice! Then Love Live is your anime! The characters convey the same feeling of unity, desire of surpassed themself and the same tenderness in the story! Both of these anime's are about a cutesey group of girls that Form groups/Bands with their friends and share their love for Music and performing Both have the same genres of Music, School and Slice of life. The characters for both anime are cute and lovable. Both anime are also about a girl wanting to make a school club associated with music (idol/light music), but doesn't have enough members. Eventually, there are more members than the minimum. Some cute girls become friends when they decide to form a band together. At the beginning of the two stories, some of the girls are already friends and are looking for other people to recruit to support the different roles of their dream band. Each girl has a different appearance and personality, and each has special skills. Also, the respectives main characters both have a very similar personality. In conclusion, they are both cute animes dealing with the importance of friendship and music under a school background. - High school music club - Honoka and Umi are similar to Yui and Mio - Only female characters - The characters are trying to form a band and win a music competition Both have wonderful and developed characters in music clubs who started from scratch. Their first seasons also set the stage for their respective (and superior) second seasons. What makes them even more alike is the similarity between Honoka & Yui (air-headed and happy optimist leader), Umi & Mio (shy, but talented main lyricist), Kotori & Mugi (kind and gentle) and Nico & Azusa (arguably the most important character and they both have twin tails). While the issues of K-On are not as problematic as Love Live, they're both cute, funny and musical anime that'll get you sucked in. Both featured cute high school girls and awesome music that surely rock your world. Both series bring you slice of life and lots of laughter that boost up your mood especially when you're stressed out. Both K-on and Love Live are MOE, fluffy shows that focus on a group of dynamically diverse characters, in which they strengthen each other as individuals. As a conjoined group they empower each other. They compensate for the others shortcomings, strengthening their bond simultaneously. |
The iDOLM@STERpermalink Both stories deal with a group of up-and-coming idols. report Recommended by PerlaNemesis Both animes are about a group of girls trying to take the stage to become top idols. Love Live is essentially Idolmaster without the Producer and with an all schoolgirl cast. But if you enjoyed Love Live you may like Idolmaster In both series, there is a group of girls who are interested in the music industry. Together, they unify as a group to perfect their talent and show their skills to others to see. Both series also has a theme of friendship that also follows the girls' every day lives. Both series has comedy, drama, and of course music. Both series generally has a lighthearted background. Both animes containing cute girls aiming for becoming top idols, reaching toward their dreams is their tasks, nice songs illustrating beautiful friendship among the girls. Like Love Live!, The iDOLM@STER, is a fun and surprisingly moving idol anime filled with diverse and endearing characters and bombastic and catchy music numbers. Being an 'Idol' can be difficult to master the dances and singing. Though, one thing they need to do is this, 'Practice makes Perfect.' The story is about a group of girls who wanted to become Idol's themselves and gaining attention from the people around them. It's start off as beginners as they need to know the steps of becoming an Idol, until they master it, and perform miraculously in front of the crowd. Love Live! takes place in a school where the main characters formed an idol of themselves to prevent the school from shutting down. The Idolmaster is a slice of life show that takes place on the studio and follows the daily lives of the Idol's activities. These two anime are similar to each other because they are both about school idols. They both have a huge cast of unique characters. Some characters in Idolmaster are similar to some Love Live characters. There's dancing and singing scenes in both anime. If you liked one series you will probably like the other. - Both series is about idols. - Have a good musical presentation. - Idolmaster is more on a bit of drama - Love Live is much cheerful kind. -Both anime include idol groups -Interesting and lovable characters -In Love Live the girls form the group to save their school whilst in Idolmaster it goes into the routine of idols trying to get into the pro scene. If you have seen one you would love the other and if you haven't seen either it wouldn't hurt to watch both. They both revolve around idols, but whereas Love Live is about school idols, iDOLM@STER deals with professional idols. The girls' career motives are slightly different, but the constant themes of friendship and self-improvement are constant throughout the run of both anime. Oh and there is also waifu bait but this is good haha. The iDOLM@STER is about become a top idol, same as Love Live! School Idol Project. Both has to become top idol because of certain 'conditions'. Unlike The iDOLM@STER, Love Live! School Idol Project didn't use Producer, but they start over by themself. Same idol anime but different type of idol storyline The main thing that these two shows share is that they are about idols who have to deal with some tremendous task in front of them. Obviously, with both shows being about idols, they are both heavily centered around music. Additionally, both shows try to appeal to a much broader audience by using a slice-of-life approach instead of just simply singing & dancing the entire time. The main difference between the two shows, however, is the artwork (since Love Live! arguably has more 'moe' appeal) and that in Love Live! the relationships among the main characters are much more fleshed out. But nonetheless, if you enjoyed one, you are certain to enjoy the other. report Recommended by Nahgisa |
AKB0048permalink If you liked either, chances are you'll like the other. Love Live is more of a realistic take, while AKB0048 is like a really silly take on the same subject matter. AKB has idols fighting to save the universe, while Love Live is a lot more like K-On, but with more of a focus on the plot. Going into detail about these two series (and AKB0048 Next Stage) would seem to be given how similar they are. First off, both series are idol groups. AKB0048 is the developed group with LL is showing how the group μ's is starting to form from the ground up. Both AKB0048 and μ's have groups against. For μ's it's the student government while AKB0048 has planetary governments. Of course in the end we all know both will triumph. Enjoy the series. Neither will classics, but they are fun to watch. Both have CGI scenes for dances, other than turning ordinary girls into idols. Both animes are about a group of girls trying to take the stage to become top idols. Both series features a cast of characters who wish to make a name in the music industry. As such, there are songs sung by the characters in every episode. In both series, there is comedy, drama, and competition as the girls compete against other singers. They are both music anime's about ambitions of becoming great singers and dancers. The settings are a little different but the music genre is the same, and both use CG during their music performances. report Recommended by yakoo Both series got School Idols & Friendship Building! They both include idols mainly, they are both about a group of girls who want to become a big idol group together! I also think some of the character personalities are pretty similar Nagisa = Honoka? Anyway I think that if you enjoyed on you should enjoy the other, as long as you like idols you should be fine In order to become an idol, one must be able to make sacrifices, work hard, and have determination. Tears will be shed in order to make dreams come true. Becoming recognized is not an easy task. While AKB0048 is set in a world where entertainment is banned on several planets, the story follows a group of girls from various planets aspiring to become part of the famous idol group, AKB0048. On the other hand, Love Live! School Idol Project follows around a group of girls becoming idols in order to save their school from shutting down in hopes of gaining more students. While, Love Live! School Idol Project takes a more realistic approach in becoming an idol than AKB0048, they both portray the hardships of idol hood. Both AKB0048 and Love Live are Idol-centric. Both are very cute with bubbly characters and cute relationships. Love Live is High School SoL AKB0048 is sci-fi, kinda school SoL. Both are based on female idol groups that have struggles to help their group be successful. While Love Live! is more realistic, AKB0048 is more futuristic and is based off of the idol group AKB48 an has many parallels to the actual group. This anime is also about idols, and if you enjoyed the cute, fun, energetic characters in Love Live! School Idol Project, you will definitely enjoy the colorful, cute characters in AKB0048. It shows the hard works of idols. The perspectives are completely different, but I asure that you will like it too. |
Hanayamatapermalink A small group of girls trying to start a music-and-dance-related club in their school. They struggle to recruit members, and their goal is to participate in a competition. Cute girls doing cute things. * The anime starts with someone finding a new passion and forming a group about it. * Features A Highly strict, 'Kuudere' Student Council President who is completely against the group, and a Vice president who is supportive of the group. * The group is forced to make The school building rooftop as their practice area. * The main character is an airhead of sorts * Features similar archetypes (Shy Girl, Tsundere, 'Sheltered Ojou') Slice of life series with a group of characters coming together to do with they love. There is talent that exists among the characters of both series. The energy level is ecstatic with a strong empowerment to the story that drives the series' characters and their goals. Recommended for anyone into a slice of life with purpose. Hardwork,Practice,Friendship.. They have a common goal on achieving their ultimate dream. One is about dancing and the other is about idol groups. Both follow a very similar episode format, and both groups have a goal to compete in some kind of large or grandeur festival or competition. Both are slice of life with (though possibly debatable for Love Live) an emphasis on moe. Character dynamics and the way they all interact also feel relatively similar. Love cute girls dancing around in circles? Then look no further since both of these Anime includes cute girls dancing. The girls in both series are mostly on the rooftop practicing whatever they need to practice and the student council doesn't really want them around. Both anime started out with someone wanting to start a group. It takes time for the groups to be fully developed, meaning that a member or more is introduced into the group as the anime progresses. And seriously, there are certain scenes that felt very similar to each other. Love Live is on music, while Hanayamata is on dancing. This two series talks about how teamwork and friendship can get through hardship to reach goals. Love Live and Hanayamata have characters with strikingly similar personalities. They have similar atmospheres too! Girls creating a club (one for yosakoi, the other for idols, both involve dancing) and recruiting other girls along the way to participate in a competition, both anime mix cute moments and character drama, they also practice in the rooftop of their respective schools. A group of girls want to start a idol club in the school, they pay much effort on recruiting members and practicing for a competition. They share similar characters: Honoka & Hana - active, energetic, determined and not good at study Hanayo & Naru - ordinary, shy but want to change herself Maki & Yaya - perfect and tsundere Eri & Machi - the leader of Student Union, strict on other members Umi & Tami - behaving like Yamato Nadeshiko |
Aikatsu!permalink Both are about girls trying to become idols. Both also have similar animation during the dance scenes. Aikatsu is aimed at a younger audience and is less 'slice of life' than Love Live (with a small scifi element) - but if you like idols, optimism, and lots of cute likable characters, you'll probably like Aikatsu as well. Similarities: - Series based around schoolgirls becoming idols - Overall optimistic tone - Good mix of fun and stylish music - Strong friendships between main characters Uniquenesses: - As far as idol shows go, Love Live is more grounded in reality than Aikatsu - Aikatsu is aimed at young girls, while Love Live is aimed at older anime fans Well they are both about teenage girls who want to become a top idol of some sort. They are also quite similar on genres, they are both based in a school and include some comedy. Even though Aikatsu is a bit more futuristic in a way there are many things similar in both of these anime. So that is why I think if you liked one you would like the other. Although aimed at a younger audience, Aikatsu is another idol anime that portrays a group of girls hoping to achieve their dreams. While Love Live! has more realistic elements, Aikatsu is fun to watch if you have an open mind or a little childishness still in your heart - its unique characters and sci-fi-like features may catch you off guard. -The main characters are both girls who decide to be idols -There are sad moments and emotional moments, but most of it is cute & fun -They both have many songs -They both are very addictive! Both are about idols who go to school and work hard to become the best idol they can be. The main characters of both are energetic and cheerful. |
Tari Taripermalink It's about some students that work hard to achieve their goal and also protect their beloved school. -Similar cast of characters -Similar plot -Both are musical anime If you generally like high school girls trying to form a club to sing music, then this is the type of show you might like. Both series features a lighthearted setting where young high school girls are in a club together and doing what they love - music. Both series takes place at high school setting where comedy and drama are present. Both series follows a similar slice of life sequence. Both series' female cast characters has contrasting personalities - some enthusiastic about the club while others takes a little encouragement to pursue what they hope to do. Both try to sing to save their school, at first they are looked down upon and seen as a group with not much potential, but then they get better and more popular. In Love Live, the primary goal of starting the idol group was to save the school. In Tari Tari they started their musical group without knowing their school was going to be torn down, it's a problem that happens later. Both are music centered. Both have to do with singing and very much alike in a lot of ways. On the surface, both series share a theme around music. On a deeper, more meaningful level, music is used as a way for the main characters to grow and develop relationships among each other. Furthermore, both series share a very similar premise. Basically, both are a group of music enthusiasts who come together in a club setting and strive for a common goal. The main difference is that in Tari Tari, relationships are tested throughout the course of the plot; in Love Live!, they are not. |
Wake Up, Girls!permalink Ambitious groups of idols who start from nothing and then strive for the top. Both contain a mix of comedic and dramatic moments, as well as a cast of likable characters (for the most part). Key difference is that WUG tries to show a more realistic portrayal of the idol business, while Love Live doesn't. Both anime are full of music and friendship! The music in both of them are very catchy, and get stuck in my head constantly. Even the lovable characters seem to have some resemblance to one another.. Such as Yoppi & Umi and Hanayo & Airi. They folow around the plot of young idols trying to make it to stardom, but WUG is a bit more 'life like' than Love Live, though. Both are excellent, and I highly recommend them. ^^ report Recommended by vocaloidgirl123 One of the similarities of these shows is that in order for the company in case of Wake Up, Girls! and the school for Love Live! School Idol Project to not be closed, they had an idea from the famous idol groups in the respective shows to produce and create an idol group of their own. Secondly, both shows show the struggles and hardships in forming an idol group, how they will work together, and on how they can improve themselves for them to become more popular. Lastly, both shows have great songs for audience to enjoy. Both contain multi-girl groups fighting to be idols in Japan. Both follows the story of girls becoming idols from the beginning, characters growing up together and becoming closer, developing a beautiful friendship that sure will move some of you. (((also, every song is really catching and you'll end up singing to the ost without noticing!))) |
Free!permalink Both Love Live and Free! explore the assembling of a club that does not exist in the school. One for the sake of the school to not disband, and the other just for the sake of competition. Both strive towards a common goal (winning Love Live/swimming tournament) and explore the friendships between the characters in their journey to achieve their club goal. Both anime are about a group of diverse characters that come together to create a group (an idol group in Love Live, a swimming team in Free!). These characters face various challenges that help them to grow and improve together. While not everyone who enjoyed Love Live will enjoy Free!, I recommend giving it a go. A group of friends working together trying to accomplish a goal. Both great shows about friendship, growing, and competing. (This recommendation pertains to both the 2 seasons of LL and Free) Focusing on the slice of life aspect, both shows start with the premise of getting together with other diverse characters to achieve a common goal. Later on in both series, the goal becomes clearer that the 'groups' want to do something big (winning Love Live for Muse and doing a relay in the nationals for the Iwatobi Swim Club) for it could possibly be their last chance to do it together. Both series started off their 1st season as lighthearted and comedic whereas their 2nd seasons were unexpectedly filled with drama, hope and inspiration. The two shows displayed a high school life dedicated to club work and the implications of graduating members on the club. Both series displayed the importance of leaning and growing with another as well. If you were inspired or a fan of one of these shows because of their slice of life aspect and the underlying message of achieving something big together, then I'd say give one or the other a go. |
BanG Dream!permalink A group of female high schoolers are formed together to create music out to the world. Each character have their own distinct trait; the MC are similar as well - in how enthusiastic they both could be and how they were inspired by another idol group which made them form their very own. Artwork are very similar for both anime too. report Recommended by kalibo Both anime have a cheerful protagonist that wants to form a musical group. They both try their hardest to do so. Also, the other characters get enough screen time and have completely different personality witch you don't see very often in anime. Some similarities:- - All of the main characters are high school females - They were inspired by another group - Cheerful and bright type of show - The MC (Kousaka, Honoka) has the exact same personality as the MC in BanG Dream (Toyama, Kasumi) Some non similarities:- - Love Live doesn't use instruments but BanG Dream does - Love Live has 9 members while BanG Dream has 5 members. |
K-On!!permalink -Both involve music even if for different reasons -Main characters are all females -They are all slice of life genres Enjoy them! These anime are both about girls singing. Both have the girls eating cakes instead of trying harder. Both have amazing characters. Both have great singers involved! Both involve girls (in all-girl schools) who decide to form a band/group. Though, Love Live! School Idol Project takes on a bit of an interesting twist. |
Girls & Panzerpermalink Main characters are all girls. The schools face the problem of shutting down unless main characters do something for their school. In Love Live, girls are trying to prevent the school from shutting down through their performance as school idols. In Girls und Panzer, girls are trying to save their school by operating tanks and win the tournament. Two settings with two different approaches both trying to conquer the same goal. Love Live is great for those who likes music, and Girls und Panzer is great for those who likes action packed machinery fighting. Both are comedies about group of girls trying to save school from closing. While in Love Live they do so by forming an idol group, in Girls und Panzer they do so by battling with tanks. Love Live and Girls und Panzer are quite similar, they follow the same story of girls saving the school from closing down by winning a contest. The characters are very similar, as well. First of all, let me tell you that Girls und Panzer is not (!!!) an ecchi anime, if you dislike those. I mean, if I was to compare, I'd say that Love Live had more sexy moments than GUP, I can't remember a single sexy scene, so if those annoy you - GUP is right for you. Another thing to note is that while the anime is very similar to Love Live, it's not as strong in terms of characters and the story. It starts off rather nice but then just turns into the regular 'spirit talk', 'gambare!' and etc., characters stop showing any kind of unique qualities.. I found myself wanting to skip most of the dramatic moments of GUP, they're just not good. The first 6 episodes were not as noticeable because it actually had some comedy in i, but with the 2nd half.. it's difficult for me to name a single episode that had any kind of comedic moments which is very strange because GUP should have had some comedy. So, why watch it, then? Girls und Panzer is a light-hearted anime about girls saving the school with cute pinky tanks. Not as strong as Love Live in terms of the story and characters, but certainly a decent anime to watch to take a short (!) break from some long-running shows that require a lot of attention and energy. |
Re:Stage! Dream Days♪permalink Both are talking about school idols. Main characters struggle to find new members. In Love Live, the group's goal is to save their school, while in Re Stage they aim to win the Prism Stage competition. Another show focusing on School Idols aiming for the national competition. If you liked the characters and music of Love Live the characters of Re:Stage are all very likable and it has a similar musical style to µ's There is no doubt that Re:Stage! Dream Days♪ has a lot similarities to Love Live. If you didn't watch LL yet, you definitely need to! Otherwise you will miss something really great, especially if you love school idols and their music! Since Love Live! School Idol Project is the first series of the whole LL, I will only reccommend this one. Of course LL Sunshine and the movies are similar too. The watching order for LL is: Love Live! School Idol Project (2 seasons) -> LL The School Idol Movie -> LL Sunshine (2 seasons) -> LL Sunshine The School Idol Movie: Over the Rainbow [(-> Perfect Dream Project when???)] (plus OVA) In LL we have the an idol group of nine members instead of six. They all have the goal to win the nationals. Prism Stage and Love Live. They fight and work hard to achieve their goal. Watching them makes you happy and you wanna enjoy their music totally! |
Zombieland Sagapermalink Both series are about Idols who trying to become best by their own way. The only difference is Zombieland Saga is more serious and horror-centric storyline while Love Live are more cheerful and has lighthearted storyline. Full Moon wo Sagashitepermalink Both series deal about music and idols. It is more about the music or something to reach someone, to be famous. Love Live doesn't have romance unlike Full Moon Wo Sagashite, but the two of them are alike in the feeling and in some of the plot. The two of them have girls with the dream of becoming famous idols/singers. Also, both of them are about making your dreams come true and they leave a positive message about life and friendship. |

Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! and Love Live! are stories where a school is faced with the dilemma of low enrollment. The optimistic and determined protagonists, Manabi and Honoka, each band together with an eclectic group of schoolmates to confront the problem. Despite taking different routes to solving the problem, there is a common feel about how the diverse members of each group learn to first tolerate each other and then effectively collaborate toward the shared goal. |
Futsuu no Joshikousei ga [Locodol] Yattemita.permalink Girls with no experience in entertainment come together to try and become popular idols for the welfare of their hometown. In Love Live, the girls bring attention to their local school, but in Locodol, it's their entire town that they're trying to bring attention to. Both are comedies about a group of girls that are starting an idol carrier. Both have shool setting and both have similar 'cute' animation style. |
The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girlspermalink If you are a fan of 'girls only' (Not Yuri), I recommend watching this anime because the story is fun and colorful. They're extremely similar: both are about girls who decide they want to become idols. The settings are a little different; IM@S CG is in a production company, so the girls are being professionally helped, whereas in Love Live they're in school. There is also much more drama as there are many more subunits and dynamics within IM@S than there are in Love Live. The music in IM@S is very catchy, and is similar to the songs in Love Live. Cinderella Girls will reel you in and get you very invested in the characters and the relationships between them, and is something you shouldn't skip out on! |
Hachigatsu no Cinderella Ninepermalink -Both anime have similiar art style and character desgin -Both first girl also have similiar personality and help of thier childhood friends to create the club -Both anime consisting bunch of girls who want to create a club or associate but getting rejected over and over by their student council leader at first Hachigatsu and Love Live are both about a group of high school girls coming together to form a more unorthodox club and all the challenges that come with it; in Love Live it is school idols and in Hachigatsu it is girls baseball. Similar tropes, similar personalities amongst the girls, similar drama you name it. Formulaic wise it is K-On part 500. |
Little Witch Academia (TV)permalink Those who saw love live (only to those who saw love live) I recommend seeing little witch academy since both are animates where he talks about the ambition and emotion that is to follow the dreams with a cast of adorable characters that if you liked those of love live you will like more those of little witch academy, both play the same theme with different methods and styles but with content with similarities to each other. both are history where a group of pretty girls try to fulfill their dreams, have a more or less similar aura, a great sense of friendship and both have the same type of protagonist |
Hibike! Euphoniumpermalink Both series focus on high school girls achieving their dreams and goals, though Love Live is more about idols while Euphonium is more about school bands. If you liked the musical charm of Hibike! Euphonium, check out Love Live! School Idol Project for the same kind of look into a different genre of music. If you liked the mostly-girls cast, Love Live has a main cast of 9 girls that are all quite interesting a lovable. The touch of yuri from Hibike! is present in Love Live! as well. If you liked the gorgeous animation, well, Love Live has the same kind. |
Anima Yell!permalink -Starts with mc finding new passion, making new club about it and finding members -Problems with finding members -Cheerleading and being an idol is alike (dancing, idols making people smile, cheerleaders cheer people) -Both are CGDCT ('Cute Girls Doing Cute Things') in school -Similar characters (Kohane/Honoka, Hizume/Eri, Uki/Umi, Kotetsu/Hanayo, Kana/Nico) Watching cute and cheerful girls energetically perform on stage is bound to put a smile on your face. In both anime, the main character finds a new hobby and forms a club to follow her passion. Eventually she meets other like-minded girls and gets them to join her. Both series have a good balance between lighthearted slice of life and character-driven moments. |

Natsu-iro Kisekipermalink Both anime are focused on girls efforts to become idols. Personality of characters are very alike and also have plenty of moe. Same lighthearted slice-of-life feel, cutesy moe-esque feel; both series gives two same idol-themes but directs to different stories of friendship and chasing dreams of becoming idols in their own terms. Plus, the characters are never boring, you'll see from both series that each of their characters stands out. Everyone is a main character and no one goes to be just an extra or support-character. |
Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch Purepermalink Both anime are of girls singing and working hard towards a goal. |
Show By Rock!!permalink Both Love Live! and Show By Rock!! focus on the development of a girl band/idol group. They both also involve similar stories of bonding between the characters (training camp, practice sessions etc.). Plasmagica and µ's have a very similar style of music. |
Aikatsu Stars!permalink LOVE LIVE has been one of my favorite anime since i joined the otaku world. it's fun and entertaining especially their performance and songs. you can also find similarities with this anime but aikatsu stars is a bit different with LOVE LIVE since the idols work individually in aikatsu. |
One Piecepermalink -Both are super popular in Japan and if we consider One Piece as king of shounen shows, Love Live is king of idol shows -Both contain groups that grow over time and finally reach 9 members -Both contain drama -Luffy and Honoka have similar personalities -Love Live has many shounen elements (like trying hard and not giving up for your goal, power of friendship among members, etc.) and obviously One Piece has shounen elements too |
Ongaku Shoujo (TV)permalink The stories follow an orange haired female who upon seeing idols on TV, they are instantly entranced and amazed. However, in Love Live, she starts an idol group in which she scouts or recruits more members through the series, while in Ongaku Shoujo, the idol group has already been formed. Instead she is part of the staff management. In both, there is also a female character who does not approve of the orange haired girl creating/helping the idol group. All of the main characters in these two shows are females. The art style complements with the diversity of the how the characters look in a satisfactory manner. CGI scenes are seen in both, except Love Live displays it way more often than Ongaku Shoujo does, the style of the CGI are pretty similar. Conflict is seen towards the end of these series, although Ongaku Shoujo solves their conflicts way faster than Love Live does. |

Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojopermalink Misaki (Sakurasou) and Honoka (Love Live) are really similar characters. The two shows are really funny but Sakursou is about romance while Love Live is not. The two shows focus on how you can achieve your goals by working hard and on friendship. |
Megane na Kanojopermalink If you're a person who likes cute things, simple joy, and light humor, then you will enjoy Megane na Kanojo. However, the basic stories are lacking in amazement or inspiration from the characters. In Love Live!, there are qualities about the characters that are admirable, yet very common. Females are portrayed with honesty, and the show has much more humorous scenes surrounding this large group of friends. |
Lemon Angel Projectpermalink Both are about a group of girls who have to become popular. |
Action Heroine Cheer Fruitspermalink School girls form a performance group to try and save something: in Love Live, it's their school; in Cheer Fruits, it's a local hall. Most of the story is about getting better and coming together as a unit. |
White Album 2permalink Both are about high school groups forming a band of some sort. The prequel White Album is also about idols as well. They both show how the groups grow. |
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagannpermalink the core theme of these two anime is 'aim high' 'Never give up without trying' and 'dream about the future'. In both. Initially, the main characters are ordinary nobodies, then, they are faced with a figurative 'wall' that they must overcome(yielding ends the story then and there). After successfully jumping over this hurdle, they become well known and successful and then they discovered that now that they are successful, they are now faced with a task/goal far bigger than what they ever imagined(at this point, the progression is now different, but Love Live 2 fixes that). theme wise, there is this pushy character who gets all his/her friends to join him on his endeavor. this rubs off to their friends and then before they know it, they all already have the go getter attitude. These themes are also embodied in the songs used in the show as well (Sorairo Days, Susume => Tomorrow;Rap is a Man's Soul,Bokura wo ima no naka de) |
The iDOLM@STER SideMpermalink Plucky amateurs struggle to become famous idols so they can bring joy to everyone in fun character-focused dramedies. Much more focus is placed on the idols themselves and their relationships with each other than providing any kind of realistic look at the industry. |
IDOLiSH7permalink Both idol groups looking to succeed within the industry. |

Yuru Yuripermalink You like cute lesbians? I do, too. Both of these shows have a mainly female cast, are entertaining for slice-of-life animes, and a carry some girl-on-girl innuendo. Only difference is that Love Live! has some sort of a consistent plot and an end goal in mind, while Yuru Yuri is all over the place, with mini arcs here and there. |
Battle Girl High Schoolpermalink This recommendation is based on the first 3 episodes of Battle Girl High School. The stories are different, but these two animes share alot of similarities: Same overall tone and feeling Similiar character design The main characters are alot alike, cheerful and friendly Similiar characters overall Lots of upbeat pop music Really close relationships between the girls Mild yuri subtext Similiar outfits Large cast of girls striving for a goal together Colorful The importance of team work |
Kirarin☆Revolutionpermalink Both have a girl who is determined to get what she wants in life. Both also have to do with the entertainment business as well. |
Nanatsu no Taizaipermalink Both of these series start out with incomplete casts and over time develop rich casts full of colourful characters. In them the initial casts gather more members in order to dethrone a powerhouse. Although the characters you are first introduced to may not be as interesting or likable than you would hope, the rest of the cast will surely make up for it. These are both great stories and while they may deviate from their manga they are enjoyable and well worth your time. |
