At the climax of “Car,” a twee power ballad from Built To Spill’s 1994 album There’s Nothing Wrong With Love, Doug Martsch passionately whined, “I wanna see movies of my dreams!” Three. There is no doubt in my mind that there might not be a Modest Mouse, a Death Cab for Cutie or Rogue Wave without Built to Spill. This Idaho band so indelibly left its mark on the Northwest that no other band subsequently could escape it.

Doug Martsch sure can write a love song, and on There’s Nothing Wrong With Love, Idaho indie rockers Built to Spill dig deep into the genre, including the wistful delicacy of “Twin Falls” and the overtly sexual orchestral folk of “Fling.” The shadowy, aching melancholy of “Car” is easily one of Martsch’s finest moments, breaking away from a dirgey middle to a rousing finale. And on “Stab,” he howls into the void about suicide, taking the song’s last crescendo to thrashy, anxious extremes.

There's Nothing Wrong with Love is the second full-length album released by indie rock band Built to Spill. The line-up for the album was guitarist and vocalist Doug Martsch, bassist Brett Nelson, and drummer Andy Capps. There's Nothing Wrong with Love was recorded in May and June 1994, and released September 13, 1994, on the Up Records label. It was produced by Phil Ek. The songs 'Car' and 'Distopian Dream Girl' were released as singles. The video for 'In the Morning' was featured on Beavis and Butt-head. Pitchfork ranked There's Nothing Wrong with Love No. 24 on its Top 100 Albums of the 90s list.^[10] An unlisted final track is a satirical preview of the next Built to Spill album. None of the clips on the track are real Built to Spill songs. Sub Pop reissued the album on vinyl in 2015.^[11]
